Wake Up!! You are in Singapore

I suspect that one of our transport companies conducted a survey recently. It must have asked commuters what was the first thing they wanted to know when they woke up from their comfortable sleep in our world-class seamless transport system. The overwhelming answer must have been....

Where in the world am I?

By that, I guess the respondents meant that they wanted to know whether they missed their stop in Eunos and ended up in Woodlands. But our scholarship-holding ingenious civil servants took the rhetorical answer literally. In their drive to impress the upper echelons of the gahmen with their customer service attitude, they decided to put up a sign that said.... [drumroll] .... Singapore!

Now I can clearly understand the rationale behind raising the transport fares. Such innovative features in our bus will ensure that Singapore becomes remains the transport hub of the region.

It is indeed strange. Some buses have those panels but showing nothing; others show "Singapore"; and only a few I've encountered give me an idea of what they're supposed to be for. They're supposed to show a brief description of the next bus stop, like "opposite block 123". I think this would be helpful to those unfamiliar with the place, although up to now there has been a lower-tech way to go about this :) Maybe the system is still under testing and so you don't see it on all buses and all routes.

Wahahha....classic! So if I fell asleep on the train and ended up way over in west coast, I'd still be in Singapore. Excellent. No matter where I end up I'm not lost, I'm still in Singapore what. Kenasai. Hahah!

But seriously as lzydata says, it's meant to show the names of the current and next stops right? :)

hey lzydata and mooiness, i also thought the panel was meant to show a description of the next bus stop which like you said, would be helpful to unfamiliar commuters.

maybe it was too much to ask of our cost-saving transport companies to let us know that such a project is in the pipeline. Well, announcing this to the world now would be inviting a flurry of complaints on whether its worth the $$.

The media also probably is finalizing the list of people they can interview who will say that the new system is the best thing that happened to Singapore since independence :)

heheh...I like how 3 or 4 persons surveyed becomes = "Majority" of Singaporeans. :P

hahaha mooiness, thats so true! But then hor, the media might say the 'majority' referred to the majority of the people they interviewed :)

or there might be a 'correction' on some inside page the next day surrounded with news of the big mistakes made by media around the world !

Actually the train company could be usng "Singapore" to test the display before one whole series of ads in the pipeline...

So next time when you wake up fr your dream, you might see "Beijing 102 Hair care"
